Girls Day Out – Nature Style

One of the things Adam and I have been good at the past few years is date night.  We actually set it up so that one of our awesome neighbor girls comes over each week to babysit – unless we tell her otherwise.  So while Adam was in Alaska, I decided to still use our weekly babysitter and instead of date night with my sweetie – I treated myself to a girls day with one of my besties!
I ended up inviting my darling sugar dumpling punkin poo Shauntai who was one of my roommates back in the day (Pre-Adam) and boy howdy did we have a marvelous day together! We started out by going out for Thai food for lunch, followed by a quick purchase of some dance clothes, (Shauntai teaches dance) and then we headed for the hills to drive the Alpine loop!
Those of you that know me – know that I am a LOVER of anything nature. There is just something about being up in the mountains, or on a beach, or near a waterfall or lake that FILLS me.  I just am in my happy place. So no mall, or pedicures, or chick flick for this girls day!  I just wanted to be up in my mountains!!  And luckily Shauntai loves being out in nature as much as I do and we were both in HEAVEN driving through the beautiful canyon!
Our first stop of the day was up to Bridal Veil Falls where we hoped to hike to the top, but after realizing I had forgotten my baby backpack or snuggli for Jamis, we decided we’d just better stick to meandering around for awhile and decided to see more and do less.  It worked out just great!

From there we took the Sundance road up to where you can take the Alpine loop, paid our entrance fee, and started driving the loop!  I had forgotten how curvy the roads were on the back side and was sure glad I was driving – otherwise I would have gotten horribly car sick.  It was almost as curvy as the road to Hanna in Hawaii!  We loved seeing a wild turkey off the side of the road as we drove and loved being surrounded by gigantic gorgeous mountains as well.

The views were just breathtaking!

We decided to make a little bit of a detour and drove down to Cascade Springs where we took a little walk about and enjoyed the beautiful falls and walkways and bridges.  Such a lovely place.

We found this cool looking beetle just behind my car when we arrived back and had to snap a picture of him.  Shauntai was also really nice and moved him to another location so that he wouldn’t get squished by my tires as we drove out.  She’s pretty nice like that! 🙂

Our last stop of the day was up to Tibblefork which just has so many memories for me.  From going tubing in the winters with my family growing up, to coming up with friends in HS.  I just love this place and loved remembering so many great times.  We also tried to go up to Silver Lake Flats but were really sad when we found out it had been DRAINED so that a dumb ski resort can build up there!  So so sad.  So we mostly just spent our time at Tibblefork where we enjoyed some mango sticky rice while I pumped a bottle in the car for Jamis.

We ended up driving out through American Fork and just as we were leaving the canyon we got to see these cute little mountain goats off the side of the road.  It was a perfect ending to a perfect day!
Thank you so much Shauntai for spending the day with me and for filling up my love bucket!
I sure do love you!
