Labor Day Weekend at Lake Powell

One of my very favorite places in the world is Lake Powell!  I just absolutely love being able to completely unplug from the world, spend leisurely days playing in the WARM water, and be surrounded by nature at its finest. There are just few things as awesome as driving through the incredible slot canyons on a ski boat, with music cranked, on a beautiful sunny day.  It just fills my love bucket right up!
Our family was lucky enough to get invited down to Lake Powell over Labor Day weekend by my brother who actually owns a houseboat – and boy oh boy did we have a great time! We originally had planned to go down Thursday, but my parents were moving out of their Alpine home and had some delays and so we ended up waiting to go down on Friday instead.
We met Luke at the Bullfrog marina at around 1pm where his buddy Jack gave us a ride over to the houseboat.  We enjoyed meeting Jack and his wife Kim, and then Lukes other friends the Spanglers.
Here are some pictures of some of our views as we drove down.

As you can imagine the kids were instantly in Heaven having an endless sandbox to play in all weekend.

We spent most of that first day just ferrying people to the houseboat and unloading everyones gear and getting acquainted with one another.  Adam and I were also in charge of dinner that night and we BBQ’ed up some Alaskan Salmon and zuccini, and then also had rice, potato salad, KFC chicken, and a strawberry blueberry spinach salad. Yum!  I also brought cookies and cornflake treats for dessert.

Adam, Jack, and my brother Luke (aka: Doo Doo Head!)

The views from the houseboat just made me happy!

I know this picture is blurry, but it cracks me up!  Harry and Ady and Dawson ended up having a mud fight and I think I know who won!  I could not for the life of me get Dawson to stop running for me to take a picture, so this is the best I got. But it was sure funny!  He looked like the locheness monster!

That first day we ended up having a storm come in JUST as I finished BBQing, which brought some rain and wind, but it was short lived and left us with this beautiful rainbow!

The sunset afterwards was pretty incredible too!

That night we mostly just sat around talking and then later Luke went to pick up my parents and Liesa and her kids who had needed to come a little later.  It was great to finally have everyone there! The kids were especially excited for their cousins to arrive!

The next day the kids immediately went out on the water to use some of the fun water toys people had brought and had fun playing on paddle boards and jet skies and then making mini “lake powell” canyons with sand toys.

Mandy and her kids were all so nice and were a huge help with Jamis!  They all were happy to hold him, feed him, or play with him if I needed to help one of the other kids or make a meal. I was sure grateful for their kindness.

Kim and Jack were so nice too and took us on lots of fun “fast” rides on their boat!  I loved how cute of a couple they were and how they spoke so sweetly to each other and about each other.

Next up! Our boat ride through the canyons!
