Lake Powell – Scouting for a Site

One of my very favorite places in the world is Lake Powell. Not only is it one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, but the water is warm, and its chuck full of wonderful childhood memories for me. Plus I love boating! So it was a no-brainer when my brother Luke and his family invited us down for the weekend!
We left Thursday night, but only some of the family were able to make it down the first night. We had a smaller crowd incuding my Mom, Luke, Brans, Harry, Daws, Ady, Jamis and myself. We arrived pretty late (around 11pm) and then needed to load Lukes boat up with all our food and luggage, and then drive it down to the marina, park all the cars, and take everyone and everything over to the houseboat. Mind you it was pitch dark too! Thankfully Luke is a pro at driving his boat at night and had a spot light to help us find the houseboat.
The kids and I all got to work unloading and then immediately tried to get everyone’s beds set up and teeth brushed since it was almost midnight. The kids were pretty wound up though and it didn’t help that they had napped in the car, so getting them to sleep was another matter. I think they all finally crashed around 1:00! 🙂
The next morning Mom made us egg mcmuffins for breakfast and then we headed out to find a spot to park the houseboat. We ended up finding an awesome spot just around the corner from where the houseboat was on the buoy and only 5 minutes away from the marina!

The kids all had fun playing on top of Lukes houseboat most of the morning.

The kids loved taking a ride on the boat to find our houseboat spot.

Jamis warmed up to Nana within moments! 😉

Captain Luke – with hair! 😉

While Luke and my Mom went back for the houseboat, the kids and I stayed to claim our spot. We hiked up to the top of a nearby hill to get a better look at the area. Gorgeous!

See the houseboats on the right? That was where Lukes was parked. Super close!

Once Mom dropped off Luke at his houseboat, she came back to drop off a few of the kids to help throw or swim ropes to Luke when he arrived with the houseboat. She kept Jamis with her to keep him out of the way which allowed me to better help Luke!

The kids had fun playing in the water until Luke got there with the boat.

We sure do love spending time at Lake Powell!
