Planting a Dead Tree

Remember how the kids and Dads ended up digging several huge holes during our camping trip? Well, towards the end of our little get-away the Dads started wondering what to do with the holes they and the kids had dug. Should they just leave the holes for the next campers to enjoy? Would other campers be irritated and upset if they showed up to a camp spot with big holes? Should they fill the holes in so that an unsuspecting four wheeler didn’t end up getting in an accident? They just weren’t sure what to do!
In the end they came up with the ingenious (aka: stupid/crazy/insane – whatever you want to call it) plan of planting a 400+ dead tree into the hole!!! Say what? Where do men come up with this stuff? So for about an hour our two men with their posse of boys attempted to move a 400+ pound fallen log into their hole. Then once they got the log into the hole and buried sufficiently, the new goal was to climb to the top of it! Which was no small feet considering it was about 8-10 feet tall! But in the end it ended up being several of our boys favorite part of the trip! Who knew that digging a hole and planting a dead tree in it could be so fun? But we have the pictures below to prove it! 🙂

This is how Jamis spent most of his time during the tree planting.
And although it didn’t give us our intended purpose of getting Jamis down for a nap, it at least kept him out of the way of the Dad’s and their attempts to move the big tree!

Dawson was the first kid to dare go all the way to the top and stand up! Way to go buddy!

Then Adam took his turn!

Soon, all the kids wanted to try it!

And it may or may not be possible that Mommy also gave it a try!

Such a crazy idea! But a fun one at that. To end the night we had a fire and eat tin foil dinners and pigs in a blanket with chips and fruit and then Katie and Eks took off (they had early church and meetings). Adam and I just ended up putting the kids to bed and then enjoyed watching a sunset together before heading to bed early! We were bushed. Then the next morning we had cereal for breakfast, and then broke camp and headed out. It sure was a fun little get-away weekend camping though! We loved our time with the Andersons and loved finally getting to get out and spend some quality time in nature!
