Spring break part 2 took us down to escalate where we were able to do a 1 mile hike around Devils garden which was so beautiful! It had cool arches, caves, formations, and a sand hill to play on! I think our kids did tricks off the hill for over an hour!
From there we drove over to the Zebra slot canyon trail which was about 5 miles round trip. It required hiking in about 2 miles to get to the canyon and then wading through freezing cold water and super tight spaces, but oh my was it fun! We left the littles all back with Grandma so it was just the adults and teens which meant we got to do a lot of technical climbing and helping each other up and down cliffs, holes, and ledges! It was a blast!
We went as far as we could go but when we we came to a 20+ foot cliff to climb up we decided we had better turn back! Especially considering we hadn’t brought ropes! 🤪
We ended up going a different way home through another little slot canyon where we found old round lava rocks and then we made a loop and returned back to the trail head! We then parted ways with our cousins and Mumsie.
The next day we hiked around the mountains near our camp and found the dinosaur footprints the trailhead near us talked about! There were so many!
Ady, Dawson, and Jamis then found some “floofy sand” to play and jump in, so the older boys and I kept exploring and found another slot canyon to climb down. I may have ruined my favorite yoga pants and jacket in the process, but it was a blast! 😂 I so do love climbing!
We then played some volleyball on the dirt road in front of our camp which we found didn’t work very well due to the influx of sticker bushes everywhere so we changed the game to catch and throw to reduce having to pull stickers out of our ball every 5 seconds! 😂
Adam then took us to a place called Egypt one which was a slot canyon you could drive to and hike down! It took us awhile to find a way into it without ropes, but we eventually did and helped each other to the bottom. It was such a cool canyon! We hiked in it for about 1/2 a mile but then ended up having to turn around when we came to a canyon drop of 50 feet or so and once again didn’t have ropes. Note to anyone going to escalate to put ropes and harnesses on your packing list! ☺️
We then went up to Egypt 2 and Egypt 3 to check those out, but one had a 300 foot drop, and the other you could only go a short ways before also needing ropes, so we just rolled some big boulders down the cliffs instead for fun! Always a family favorite activity on the Egbert side. 🤪😂
Then it was back to camp for tinfoil dinners, hot dogs, and pigs in a blanket in the fire! Which eventually led yo star gazing and a sticker bush bonfire! 😲
The next day was pack up and leave day but we decided to take another way home through Boulder, Loa, Capital Reef, and Fish lake which was gorgeous! Definitely a scenic route!
We got into Salina at lunch time and stopped for gas at TA and we’re so impressed with the cashier when Adam gave him our credit card (We highly recommend Chase Sapphire for travel!) to approve for $125 in gas and he told us to all go get free slurpees! 🥰 So kind!
Then if that weren’t enough, I ordered 2 little Caesar’s pizzas as well, which he also gave us for free! I wanted to hug him! My heart was so touched by his generosity and kindness! Someone needs to give that guy a raise! ❤️
But truly a wonderful trip spent making precious memories with my favorite peeps! “Men are that they might have joy.” 🥰❤️ I sure felt the joy each day on our trip!
