Almost every April my side of the family goes down to a place we call “The Wedge” which is considered part of San Rafel Swells. My Dad learned about this place over 30 years ago from a friend, and we’ve been coming almost every year since. Not only is the Wedge absolutely beautiful (think Moab) but it also is mostly UNKNOWN to others – so we can go on a super busy weekend like Spring Break and still hardly run into any other campers. We LOVE it!
Adam had to work most of the week while the kids were on Spring Break, but was able to work remotely on Thursday and then took Friday off of work so we could go down. My parents had already planned a camping trip that weekend to the Wedge, so we just invited ourselves along and piggy backed onto their plans. It was So Much Fun!
My brother Luke and his kids had hoped to come down camping that weekend as well – but Luke had gotten sick earlier in the week and missed a bunch of work so he thought it best to stay home and catch up. However, Lukes fiance Liesa and her 3 darling kids came down without him, and that ended up being such a blast! It was wonderful to be able to spend some one on one time together with Liesa, Aly, Kyle, & Collin and the kids all got along so well and really had a marvelous time together! We were so glad they came!
Harry and Brans excited to be in the tent trailer for the first time this year!
Mom and Dad enjoying the little bit of shade we had next to our trailer. đ
My Mom brought the kids some new sand toys which ended up being the HIT of the trip. The kids literally spent probably 5 hours a day playing with those toys and loved making cook sand creations.
We also enjoyed going on lots of little hikes together! There were so many fun places to explore.
Some pictures of the red rock formations and our “view” from our camp site.
The boys were in HEAVEN climbing all over the boulders and exploring the area around us.
Pretty view of the moon on a bright sunny afternoon (Adam took this picture)
Liesa and her kids arrived later that evening (around 8 if I remember right) and the kids instantly bonded and had a ball playing together.
Sure love this gal! (Liesa)
That night we had Mom and Dad’s traditional Hunters stew and rolls and fruit for dinner and then spent the evening talking and watching movies in their trailer. We saw what looked like an Indian house of sorts up in the rocks and took the kids on a hike to get a closer look! They were excited to find a real Indian hut! Brans and Kyle braved the steep cliffs to get up to it, but then both struggled coming down (much scarier). They both made it down though with a lot of verbal help and encouragement. They did awesome!
Beautiful view of the valley from the Indian hut. And if you look closely you can see my Mom and Dad’s white trailer in the center of the picture.
The kids used the old tree stump Adam is climbing on to get to the Indian hut. None of the adults could make it up though. We must be weak sauce! đ
We did all make it up to the 2nd little cave like place we had scoped out earlier though – this one didn’t have an Indian hut in it though. Bummer! Still was a fun hike though!
