As we were driving the last stretch home to Utah I received a text from my darling husband letting me know that he had a surprise for me! When I inquired further into the surprise it sounded like he had one last night of fun planned before we finished his month long sabbatical.
If I’m being completely honest, I really wasn’t very excited at first. I had SO been looking forward to being home and sleeping in my own bed after being gone for three weeks and was just so DONE traveling and being on the road that the thought of going away for one more night really didn’t appeal to me. I should have know better though, because Adam’s surprises are always super awesome!!!
Adam did give me a few more clues that instantly upped my excitement dramatically.
1. The location was close by (only a 35 minute drive).
2. It involved a night away WITHOUT kids! Which I was really needed considering I’d been with my sweet little nuggets for a month straight without breaks AND considering Adam and I hadn’t had a date just the two of us in that amount of time either (that is what happens when your husband goes away to Alaska for a week and then you spend three weeks on vacation with your family). So my excitement grew exponentially!
We ended up going to Payson first too which at least gave me a “taste” of home, where we unpacked our bags, unloaded the trailer and put a few overnight bags together. Then we headed up to Mum and Smurfs to drop off the kids (thanks so much guys!)
From there we drove to Lehi where we had a yummy dinner of Filet Mignon, shrimp, teriyaki chicken, fried rice, veggies, and noodles, at my favorite Tempenyaki Steakhouse. While there we met a very nice older couple whose husband worked at the Heber Creeper Railroad and they ended up giving us free tickets! Such a nice gift!
Here Adam is holding Jamis at the restaurant while we wait for our food.
Sure love my Grizzly Adams!
And then I got my real surprise! A night away at the 5th East Hall Bed and Breakfast. If you remember, Adam brought me here a year or two ago where we got the “Tahitti Room” for our anniversary. This time he booked us in the “Cancun Room” which was just as nice and exquisite! I just LOVE this place!
Once again the room was just awesome and had sandy floors just as you walked in, vegetation all over the room, and real live BIRDS to bring in that tropical feel. Seriously cool! And who doesn’t love their own built in hammock?
I loved the color combination of the room too and the romantic lighting on the ceiling.
And a giant two person bath tub? Yes please!
We even had a fireplace if we wanted to create an even more romantic mood! Ooh la la!
We of course brought little Jamis along since he was only 3.5 months old at the time.
They had really upped the quality of the breakfast too since we had been here last. The first time around all we had gotten was yogurt and granola bars, and store bought juice. This time they had waffles, pastries, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fresh juice, and a cheese plate with crackers and ham. Yum!
We truly had a wonderful and magical night together and LOVED reconnecting after a month of no alone time. And what an amazing husband for planning such a glorious surprise! I sure am a lucky lady! Love that romantic and thoughtful man of mine!
The next morning we just stayed in our room and enjoyed it for as long as we could and then we had my parents down to visit us at the hotel (they wanted to see how cool the room was too). From there we headed back up to Woodland Hills to get the kids, go grocery shopping, do laundry, catch up on yard work, and continue unpacking. Aka. Get back to real life!
It was an amazing end to an amazing trip where we created some precious and special memories together and with our kids. We truly are so blessed! And a big shout out to Adobe for the awesome month off! What an amazing benefit they offer their employees! They really have treated us so well and we are so grateful.
