I am SO far behind, but still trying to play catch up posting about our fun summer trip to Peru. Here are the details of days 11-14 in Cusco. đ
The rest of our time in Cusco we mainly spent doing some old fashion R&R. We had been pushing ourselves pretty hard, so we were all needing a bit of downtime to rest and recharge. However, in true Egbert style, even our down days still came with at least one fun adventure! We were in Peru after all, and the magnificent city of Cusco so we still tried to get out a little!
One day we went into the center of town to visit a museum that came recommended on our Peru sight seeing pass, but unfortunately the museum was closed. Thankfully right next door we found a chocolate factory open, so we had fun learning all about cocoa beans and how they grow and are harvested and then made into different kinds of chocolate instead. We also got to sample about 10-15 different types of chocolate pieces and then even got to try out chocolate jam, (very good). We finished off our visit with a large order of chocolate fondue with fruit which was such a tasty treat. Although I had to laugh when our kids ended up putting lots of sugar in the fondue since Peruvians don’t have quite the sweet tooth we Americans do! đ
After that we were able to take a tour of a Peruvian Catholic church, and then we tried out another museum on our Peruvian sight seeing pass. Unfortunately neither place allowed pictures đ, except in designated areas, so we only have a few pictures to show for our fun day.
On Sunday we had hoped to go to a local church, but all churches are still closed due to covid, so instead we just watched church online and then later took the kids to a nearby park to get their wiggles out. We once again gave out balloons, colored pencils, and candy as we went, and especially had a blast making sure every kid at the park got something too! I always love the looks on kids faces when you give them a little gift! It lights up my day so much!
Another day we went into town for Thai food and Crepes and ended up coming across a fun street art exhibit, as well as lots of souvenir shopping. We had fun looking at all the different hand crafted items and handiwork. They also had little cute Peruvian ladies walking around with baby Llamas which of course our kids LOVED seeing, so we paid to take pictures with them. Another highlight for me was seeing all the beautiful Peruvian doors. They had so much character! But we loved our 5 days spent in Cusco. Such a charming lovely city!
