Rubber Trees, Koh Yao Noi Pier, and a Green Snake

After spending some time swimming at the beach, we got back on our tuk tuk to continue our explorations around the island.  Adam found another trail that had a small hand written sign that said “Beach” on it, and we decided to try that, but after some time the road turned to dirt and got too muddy and bumpy for us to go on so we had to turn around.  All was not lost though as the road took us through some beautiful rubber tree forests where we got to dip our fingers in rubber milk and then rub them together until the rubber got sticky and eventually hardened.  It was really cool and we were all glad to have had such a hands on experience with rubber!
A side shot of our scooter side car!

The rubber tree forests!  Each tree had a slice through its trunk and then a little cup would catch the milk as it drizzled down the tree.

The next place we found while exploring was the Koh Yao Noi pier.  This is the biggest pier on the island and once again was for the most part deserted.  We saw a few people but not many and had the whole place to ourselves!

We had fun taking some family pics!

And some panorama of the views around us.

Then things started to get a little crazy!

I know this one is blurry but it makes me laugh because it looks like I have just pooped out Adalynn or given birth to her!  It didn’t come out quite like I planned!

Beautiful Jess!

Branson found a little snack!

And naturally if you have deep water and great platforms, some jumping is bound to occur!

The kids watched with awe at first and then decided to try out some jumping themselves.  They started on the bottom stair and then increased their courage levels each time going a little higher.

Unfortunately though we had a few casualties when Brans, Adam, and Harry all cut their feet on barnicles that were attached to the steps and walls of the pier.  Darn it all.  Luckily, it wasn’t anything a couple bandaids couldn’t fix.

After our fun at the pier we headed back on the road and soon came to discover this little gem in the middle of the road.  None of us had seen a snake that color out in the wild before and we were weary to get to close not knowing if it was poisonous or not.  After some careful footing with sticks in hand and some poking and prodding we came to discover that the snake was actually DEAD.  ha ha.  So that increased our courage levels exponentially and allowed us all to feel better about touching the snake and taking cool pictures with it.

Everyone took turns feeling the snake.

And a few even braved kissing it! 🙂

All throughout the day you could hear phrases like “this is SO cool” and “best day ever!” coming from the lips of all of us on the side car.  What an amazing adventure Thailand has been!
