The last three days Adam and I have pretty much spent from sun-up until sun-down working on the boys Christmas present that Santa brought – an almost 13 foot playhouse with swing set and glider. Adam and I convinced the boys earlier this last summer that if they all combined their Christmas wishes and asked for one BIG thing (instead of getting individual presents)- that Santa might oblige. So thats what the boys did and on Christmas morning Santa came through for them.
Unfortunately though that meant that everything else around the house has gone to kaput! And by this morning I had PILES of laundry that needed attention. So in between drilling boards onto the playhouse – and sorting through hardware for Adam – I was also doing laundry.
By the time dinner time came around Adam and I were were both so exhausted that we declared it an “eat out” night and we ended up going out to Mi Rancherito’s here in Payson with our good friends the Muirs. When we got home – we put the boys to bed and I went in to pump Adalynn a bottle. When I was finished though I remembered that I needed to fold my last load of laundry – but as I began pulling out clothes I kept catching funny colors on the clothes. Adalynn’s very pink knit thick jacket was now covered in blue. Was it blue lint I wondered? Oh if only it was that easy.
No, it ended up that Harry-Bob when putting his dirty clothes in the hamper had left not one, but TWO blue crayons in his pocket – which ended up melting in the dryer and covering EVERYTHING inside the dryer with blue. And when I say it was on everything I also mean EVERYWHERE on each piece of clothing as well – as in the entire load of laundry looked ruined and unsalvagable. Blue spots permeated almost every inch of each garment. And thats not even taking into consideration that the entire inside of the dryer was a lovely shade of deep blue! Ahhhh!
Luckily this scenario happens to be quite common out there in the blogging world to Mom’s with little boys – so there was a plethora of helpful tips for getting the nasty melted blue crayon out of the clothes (and dryer). So I’m hoping at least some of the tricks will work. I’m already on try two of running the clothes through a heavy wash cycle with color safe bleach, borax, and arm and hammer baking soda – and I am seeing some progress with getting the crayon out but I’m really hoping it doesn’t come down to needing to use toothpaste and WD-40 like the crayola website suggests and brushing each stain out by hand – because Mamma just aint up for the hours of time that will take. For now though I’m just really trying to see the humor in this…because I know that years from now – this will be absolutely hilarious!
“Hey Harrison, remember that one time when you accidently left blue crayon in your pocket and it ruined all the clothes and Mom had a mental breakdown? Yeah, that was sure a funny day!”
