We have a tradition on my side of the family that has been around since I was a little girl. And that is of going camping to a place called “the Wedge” down in the San Rafel Swells area. One of the great things about the Wedge is that even if you go down there during spring break – it still doesn’t get very busy – and that is something my family absolutely loves. There is just something nice about going camping all by yourself that really appeals to us. Plus it is simply just beautiful. We love the red rock, the bazillions of places to hike, and spending our time 4-wheeling, playing games, eating lots of good food, and singing around the campfire. It always makes for a great time.
This year my entire family was able to go down with the exception of my sister and her family (we sure missed you guys) for an extended weekend. My parents and brother Luke went down Thursday night and then Adam and I and my brother headed down early Friday morning. We totally lucked out this year and were able to find an AMAZING campground and one where we didn’t have neighbors around for miles! It was Sweet. Below are some pictures of the view from where we camped.

The first day we spent setting up all our trailers and camp area and then some snuggled up in Luke and Shannon’s motor home (which they nicknamed the rolling terd from the movie the RV) and watched movies.

Then later that evening my Mom warmed up her famous Hunters Stew which is a Harrison family tradition on camping trips and we all devoured it. All the cousins loved eating together around the same little table.
That night we started a big fire and Stacey made up some of her incredible dutch oven peach cobbler and then we sat around telling stories and catching up on each others lives. Sure do love that family of mine.
I wish I could say that the rest of the trip was awesome – but unfortunately for me – I ended up getting a 24 hour flu bug that hit me full force that evening after I went to bed. I ended spending the entire rest of the next day throwing up and having the sicky ickies which wiped me out. We had planned to leave that night to get back for church the next day – but decided against it when I felt too sick to even drive home and couldn’t keep any food down. So we ended up spending an extra night camping – which suited us just fine since the rest of the family was doing the same anyway.
Adam and the boys and the rest of the family went hiking and out to the dinosaur museum most of the day I was sick and then later came back and enjoyed lots of 4-wheeling rides. My sweet Mommy stayed back in the trailer with me, keeping me company, and bringing me food and other things to make me more comfortable. What an amazing Mommy she is. I’m so lucky to have her.
Sunday morning I luckily felt MUCH better and bless Adam’s heart he ended up packing EVERYTHING up all by himself insisting that I take it easy and rest – which was good since I was completely weak from being sick the day before. Then he also unpacked us all once we got home and sent me straight to bed where I took a very long winters nap.
All in all though it was a terrific trip (minus getting sick) and we all had a great time. We can’t wait to go again next year!
