Twice a year in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (or Mormon church which we belong to) we have what we call general conference where we get to hear from our wonderful prophet and apostles for 2 days straight. The conference is broadcast on TV, is on the radio, can be found on the internet on lds.org, and is translated into just about every language you can imagine so those around the world can watch or listen or read as desired or come to a better understanding of what we believe. This is something Adam and I really look forward to every six months as well as our kids and we love the counsel, direction, guidance and knowledge we gain as we watch and listen with our hearts. We always are left inspired to do better to follow our Savior Jesus Christ and to become more like him. Following his gospel is truly where we find the most joy in our lives.
Because we love conference so much we have developed a few traditions over the years that we really enjoy and that make conference fun for the kids. Before every conference begins I go out on the internet and put together my own “conference packets” where I find games like conference bingo, cross word puzzles, or “find the picture” pages to print as well as lots of coloring pages and so forth to keep the kids entertained. We also love FOOD during conference and will break into our 72 hour kids to eat the treats and goodies in those – and then I also usually make some pretty yummy dinners for inbetween sessions. Its really a wonderful weekend for us.
This year in addition to watching conference at home on Saturday – we also got the wonderful privilege of going up to Mum and Smurfs house on Sunday to watch conference with them. Because Mum and Smurf have been conference center missionaries for the past 7 years they are always AT the conference center during conference doing security and therefore have been unable to watch conference live. So that was a real treat getting to be at their home to watch it with them.
Then that evening we also got to have a wonderful roast and potatoesdinner with Adam’s Uncle and Aunt Clint and Carol as well as Adam’s cousin Jeff who was up visiting as well. It truly was a wonderful evening filled with “Hey Dave” stories, lots of laughter, hearing about how everyone met and fell in love, and conference high lights! We sure do love spending time with our family and we are sure grateful for the wonderful spirit we felt during conference weekend!
