Back in January Adam and I were able to host a “cultural night” at our home for the Young Men in our ward that are in Adam’s Priest group. Adam wanted to make all the boys Korean food – so a few nights before the big event I got a list of the names of the dishes that Adam wanted to make, and went online and found a bunch of the recipes. Then I compiled them all into a small recipe book which the Young Men used that night to make all the food. Adam and I had a blast working together with the Young Men to cook all the food – and I particularly loved the opportunity to get to know them all better. What a great group they are!
Our cuisine for the evening consisted of the following
- Lettuce wraps
- Bulgogi (a sweet garlic steak dish)
- Fried Tofu
- Steamed Rice
- Kimchi Jjigae (Korean Kimchi soup)
- Korean potatoes (sooo good!)
- Dukpokki (Korean rice cake dish)
- Cabbage Noodles (a Hungarian dish from my side of the family)
- and Ho Duk for dessert (a Korean pancake with jam inside)
Adam during the evening taught the boys some of the Korean eating customs – one of which was to stuff an entire lettuce wrap in your mouth at one time. Most of the boys tried it and were quite successful – and it provided us with some fun entertainment for the evening. Adam ended the night by showing the boys some pictures and memorabilia from his mission, telling some stories and having our Bishop also share some experiences from his mission as well. It sure was a fun night and I loved being apart of it!
