Egbert Family Reunion 2009 – Schofield Cabin

This weekend not only did we get to celebrate the 4th of July, the independence day of this great country that we live in, but Adam and I also got to organize and host this years Egbert Family reunion! Although it was a TON of work to put together trying to figure out fun things for 40+ people to do, I think it turned out well and that everyone had a good time. We had the family reunion up at the Egbert Schofield Cabin. Adam and I decided to create what we called the “Egbert Olympic Games” and broke the games up into two days. For day one we had a battle of the physical strength and then on day two we focused more on mental challenges. To start the Olympic Games we divided the family up into three different teams with a fair ratio of adults teenagers and kids. Each team was allowed to come up with their own team names, and we ended up with the Pirates, Mushrooms, and Smurfs. Then we let the games begin! 🙂

For our first challenge we had a 3 legged relay race where each team had to run to the end of the field and back.

Getting lined up for the race

Ready, Get Set, GO! Court and Alli are in the lead!

Oh but watch out for Sam and Jessica! They are coming up close!

Parris and Tarre had the system down!

Then for our 2nd challenge we had a sack relay race using king sized pillow sheets.

Our third challenge was a egg and or water balloon toss contest.
It was amazing how far apart people got throwing eggs and water balloons!

Ad catches a water balloon without it breaking…
Tarre breaking out his catching skills

Janet wasn’t so lucky with her catch…

Next we had one of our eating challenges which consisted of a pie plate full of whipped cream with 2 peices of gum in it. One peice of gum was a bubble gum ball and the other was a flat thin wriggly’s piece of gum. The contestants (Jessica, Calli, and Court) all had to find both pieces within the whipped cream and the first to blow a bublle won!

Then we played the sponge game where each team got a sponge and a bucket full of water. Each team had to go over their heads and then under their legs to pass off the soaking wet sponge to team mates and then would wring out the sponge in an empty bucket at the end of the line. The first team to fill up their bucket won! 🙂

After that game, we had a mini-intermission when Michelle apparently soaked Dean with the sponge which caused Dean and Adam to gain up on her and seek their revenge! Below is an action shot Sam captured of Adam getting Michelle wet.

And another shot from Dean throwing his bucket of water on her as well.

Poor Mish. All Soaking wet. 🙂

For out next challenge one person from each team was chosen to eat a Sardine marinated in Mustard sauce. The three brave hero’s from the team were Parris, Adam, and Dean.

Next we played the mummy game, where each team picked one adult person to be their mummy. Then they were each given 4 rolls of toilet paper to wrap their mummy. The first to complete the task with only the team members eyes showing won!

Great shot of Bryce breaking out of his Mummy wrap! 🙂

Then we played a game of “balloon sandwhich” where each team had to run back to back with a balloon in between them and not “pop it,” or “lose it.” We all got a good laugh out of this one, as in every pair there was one who dominated the race!

For the last eating challenge each team had one member that had to lie on the ground while another member dropped ketchup covered marshmallows into their mouths. This activity had me laughing so hard my cheeks hurt by the end. Sadie, Court, and Jessica were all great sports to participate in this Fear Factor eating activity! Thanks again guys!

The winner was the team that could get the most marshmallows in their team-mates mouth. Jessica shown below was the OBVIOUS winner! She was fantastic!

Cute Kaleb and Jackson watching from the sidelines

Later that afternoon we also did a “Super Smurf Pinjata” since Smurf is the giver of candy in the family. The kids had a great time hitting the pinjata and then running to grab all the sugary goodness as it fell from super smurf. Then that evening we did a family trivia game where each member of the family wrote one interesting fact about themselves (that they thought people wouldn’t know) and we then had to guess who each person was. It was really fun to get to know new things about everyone and it was interesting how wrong we were on some of them. I’m still having a hard time believing that Michelle shot a skunk! 🙂

On the 4th of July the little town of Schofield had a big to do in town. From treasure hunts for the kids, to booths and bounce houses set up, to a parade. Below are just some of the great pics that came from the parade.

Love the bums! (not real)

Lots of tractors and 4-wheelers!

Lots of time was spent talking and playing games at the cabin. We also got great use out of the tennis courts and 4-wheelers during free time, and each night the boys stayed up late playing xbox games (one night until 4 am!)

Janet, Andrea, and Maddy all threw Ryan and Jessie (who are engaged) a bridal shower while we were all there together. Janet told us some great stories about both Ryan and Jessie. It was fun to get to know them better. Afterwards all the sister in laws had the annual birthday gift exchange where we all brought a $5 gift for everyone else. It was really fun and we all walked away with a haul of awesome stuff! (Sunday bag, FHE DVD, Bubble bath, Lotions, Candle, Families are Forever Knicknack, Crystal Light packets, etc.)

We had to get a cute shot of all the new Moms with their babies. Here is Nan and Brooklyn (10 months), Erin and Cole (8 months), and me and Dawson (5 months)

After dinner we continued Egbert games and had a bunch of new fun activities. Below is a picture of the snowball eating contest where participants had to put the entire snowball in their mouths and eat it. First person to have it gone won that round for their team!

Then we had a puzzle contest where the youngest member of each team had to put together a puzzle. Jackson, Branson, and Calli all competed on this one and all did a terrific job!

Later we had a dress-up / Funny face contest.
Below are some of the great shots we got from our participants.

Kaleb – Mahana (the 10 cow wife)
Work it Mahana!

Alli the Irish Pirate

Captain Jack Sparrow!

Haley the yodeling movie star!

Not sure what this is Ashley, but I like it!

Alli goes country!

Erica the wanna be Jamaican movie star

Kaleb getting WAY into his character!

Branson the baseball vikings cowboy

Tarre – a pirate not to mess with

Cute Calli

Mish in all her glory

Jackson can’t decide what to be!

Casey and Andy switch places

Dean captures the dame in distress!

Detective Jocelyn

Oh such lovely southern gals!

ah cute Court!

I am not sure who this one even is!

Jackson – the dead pirate

Parris – a man of many hats with his crazy sister in law, oh whats her name.

Mumsie’s funny face! Work it Mum!

Smurfs face is precious! I love it!

Kessa and Sadie – very sexy indeed!

And last but not least. My “Jamaica-me-crazy” hot hunk of a husband!

Another one of our other rounds consited of a math competition (VERY difficult questions) where each team had 4 math problems they had to solve. However, although this round was COMPLETELY boring to people like me, all the Egbert brainiacs seemed to love it!

Unfortunately we had a few of our family members have to leave that night. Smurf luckily got a few shots of them before they took off.

Cam, Erin, Malachi, and Cole (We sure loved seeing you guys!)

Chris, Nan & Brooklyn

To end the evening we all drove down the road from the cabin to watch the 4th of July fireworks from the island in the middle of Schofield Lake. Since Fireworks weren’t allowed up at the cabin (total fire hazard) we gave the kids glow sticks which they absolutely LOVED! After fireworks we all gathered around the kitchen and told stories and shared favorite smurfisms. Adam and I made cinnamon rolls and muffins for Sunday’s breakfast and then headed to bed since we had church the next day.

The Egbert Family at the Schofield brach on Sunday (Notice we aren’t in the picture: Our family ended up having to leave 25 minutes early when Branson and Harrison started screaming bloody murder because they each wanted to color out of the same coloring book but weren’t willing to share! We find these outbursts almost ALWAYS happen when sacrament meeting is last!)

Thank you to everyone for making the reunion so fun, and for being so easy going and flexible. We sure feel so blessed to be apart of such a wonderful family! Ya all are so great and we love you dearly!
