Adam laughs at me because I am really really bad at waiting to give him gifts. If I find what I “think” is a great gift and if its something I’m really stoked about or think another person will be really excited about – it is REALLY hard for me to *wait* until the actually occasion to give the gift.
Adams Fathers Day present fit right into that category. I thought I’d been pretty sneaky with the gift I got him (getting him something he hadn’t asked for), and so pretty much from the moment I bought the gift I was antsy to tell him about it. For days I made him guess what it might be and that kept me at least somewhat satiated until the gift arrived. But once it was in our house and all wrapped up in pretty paper and bows – then I really couldn’t stand it anymore – and I ended up giving it to him 3-4 days early. My justification was simple. “What if he NEEDED my gift that week?”
In order to throw off Adam from guessing what the gift might be from sheer weight though I packed it full of marbles, and cans of soup to make it “rattle” and be heavy. Adam for minutes tried guessing what it might be and over and over just kept coming back to “it sounds like marbles or rocks.” I tried convincing him it might be nails or screws to something and his best guess was that I had gotten him rock climbing holds for a rock wall he wants to someday build. đ
So finally he was able to open the gift and was happy to find that he had received some brand new road biking shorts from me and the boys! He was so excited that the next morning he decided to ride his bike just to try them out and he even modeled them for me within moments of opening them. So cute!
Adam trying to guess what his present is
On the REAL Fathers Day we started out the morning with Adam’s favorite breakfast of Crepes with all the fixins including fruit, nutella, peanut butter, jam, syrup, whipped cream, and quick. Adam also got almond chocolate milk and a few presents to open while he was eating.
One of his gifts was a card that the boys and I had made for him and had printed. He absolutely loved it.
I also had a recent picture of the kids printed and framed that Adam could take to work or put on his desk at home.
Then we went to church, came home, and I got busy trying to make all Adam’s favorite foods to take up for our family shin dig we were having with the Harrison side of the family for Fathers Day. Adam requested Asian Chicken Salad, and Black Bean Burgers, and then I made him his favorite butterfinger peanut butter cheesecake.
We were able to pick up my Papa from the Trinity Mission retirement center where he lives (after missing our first exit, and then having the next one closed for construction requiring us to drive all the way to University parkway and turn around and go back). But we eventually did make it up to my parents with Papa in hand and we had a lovely evening BBQing up good food, eating yummy salads, and catching up on everyones lives.

We ended the evening by playing beach ball soccer, having pie with our Dad’s (I made a Razzleberry for my Dad), and then we cleaned up and headed home. Sure was a fun day to spend with family. I sure am grateful for the wonderful Dads in my life. From my darling Adam who is the father of my children, to my Pappy Pants who gave me my love of adventure and travel, to my Smurfee Kins who tells me I’m his favorite daughter in law ever and to my Heavenly Father who has given me all that I have. I sure am blessed to have so many wonderful Fathers in my life. Happy Fathers Day!
