While Adam was gone to India – my cousin John came into town from Colorado for the memorial service of my Papa – and his arrival happened to land on a weekend when my two brothers and their families were planning a camping trip up at Fish Lake for the Elk Hunt. So John as well as the kids and I all got invited to come along too.
I was pretty hesitant to head up camping at first seeing as Adam was gone and I’d be flying Solo – and then I REALLY questioned going when I looked up the weather report and discovered that it was going to rain all weekend! But the kids begged and pleaded to go and it was a great chance to spend time with family and so I slowly started talking myself into it.
I ended up making the kids a deal that if they could get everything ready in 45 minutes (which is all the time we had between the memorial service and Mumsie’s birthday dinner that we could go. And by golly – those kids worked their little tails off to get ready including doing a load of dishes, taking out the garbage, bringing up all the camping gear from downstairs, packing up the car, getting all their clothes and shoes ready, and even getting down the ice chest and meal planning! They did amazing! So off to Fish Lake we went!
I almost immediately started questioning my decision though when within only 10 minutes of driving we hit a HUGE thunderstorm with a down poor of rain making it nearly impossible to even see where we were going. Then it continued to rain on and off the entire 2 hour drive down to Fish Lake. And THEN once we finally got to Fish Lake the dirt road that would take us to where my brothers were camping was completely washed out by rain and slick and muddy! Whew! It was certainly an adventure. But we made it safe and were able to throw my kids in with Lukes kids to sleep in his truck and then Adalynn and I were able to set up our beds in Lukes enclosed trailer instead of in our tent as planned (since everything was so wet and muddy).
That ended up being a bit of a mistake though when John and Luke decided to play xbox games all night keeping me and Shannon and Adalynn awake half the night. But we were just happy to not be out in the rain and wet – and tried to be grateful for that! Plus it was Lukes birthday- so it was only fair to let him stay up as late as he wanted to celebrate, right? Needless to say, none of us got a lot of sleep that night. đ
The next morning luckily the rain had let up a little – but our campground was completely wet and muddy which made for some fun 4-wheeling. We ended up spending most of the day shooting bows at targets, taking kids on rides, and scraping mud off the bottom of our feet. But we had a great time despite the mud and enjoyed being all together as a family. Below are some pictures from our fun weekend together.

Lukes kids all took turns teaching all of Jake and I’s kids to drive the 4-wheelers too. They loved being able to learn to drive by themselves!

These boys spent most of their afternoon doing their Kung Fu moves and catching over 50 grasshoppers!
Sure was a fun little spontaneous outing for me and the kids! Thanks Jake and Luke for inviting us!
