Hiking the Grotto with Mumsie

During the summers I am always trying to think of ways to motivate my kids to do their jobs.  This year I decided to try a new system where if the kids get their jobs done by 10:30 three times in a week (it was taking them until noon or later most days) then they get to choose a fun activity we can go and do as a family.
Last week the boys finally earned their day o’ fun and decided to either a) go to a movie or b) hike to the Grotto up Payson Canyon -but because of schedule conflicts the movie got ruled out.  Ad was able to clear his schedule though for a long lunch break and come with us which was a special treat.  And somehow we were also able to talk Mumsie into coming with us as well (Smurf had prior obligations).  We always love any chance we get to see our Mum!  So off we went to the mountains for our fun little adventure!

When we got up to the Grotto we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed taking showers in the waterfall, splashing in the pond, climbing in the cave, eating snacks, and putting our feet in the water.

Harry was a little (a lot) tender that day though and had a rough go.  His feet either got too cold, or he didn’t want to get wet (when Adam splashed him) or some other little thing bothered him.  Poor fella just had a hard time being happy and sulked on his rock in the corner – until snack time that is – and then he bounced right back!.  🙂

Brans loved doing some bouldering and climbing along the face of the rocks.

We loved this homemade Indian Paint he decorated himself with as well!  So funny!

Harry came and snuggled with me until he felt better…

Time to head back.  Brans takes the lead.

Sure was a fun day spent up in the mountains!  We so heart family outings!
