Thursday it rained most of the morning so we just stayed indoors playing games, and watching movies. Since the Logan Cabin is Adam’s “Happy Place” I told him we would spend all weekend doing whatever he wanted to. Adam’s first choice was to head up passed Bear Lake to Idaho to hike to Minatonka Caves. It took us about an hour to drive up there and unfortunately once we did arrive we were met by the sad news that all tours were sold out until 4:30 that afternoon (which didn’t mesh well with our schedule). The cool news though is that we just happened to arrive at the caves at the same time as some very good friends of mine who were there on a family reunion! It was so fun seeing the Stonehocker family and getting to catch up with them.
We decided next to drive about 30 minutes North (near Preston Idaho) to go Huckleberry Picking in the canyon up there. Adam’s family has been going up to this spot for years and its really fun to hike up to their “secret spot” and load up on berries! Unfortunately for us (yet again) our plans didn’t quite work out and we ended up driving into a ferocious storm (which rained on us) and then only had about 10 minutes of Huckleberry picking before we needed to head back to our cabin where we were meeting up with friends. I had to laugh when Adam and Brans came back from berry picking (I stayed in the car with the younger boys) with only a handful of berries. It got pretty comical seeing Adam rationing out his precious berries and only allotting each person two or three berries to eat! So yes, basically we drove 1.5 hours (3 hours round trip) to pick about 15-20 Huckleberries! So funny!
We got home around 5:45, quickly jumped in the shower (which ran out of hot water) and then hurriedly tried getting dinner on the table before our guests arrived. I was so excited because we were able to convince one of my best friends from my mission (Elder Baldwin) and his beautiful wonderful wife Shanda to come up from Paradise to spend the evening with us. Elder Baldwin and I were in the MTC together way back when and then we spent 14 of my 18 months in the same area. Elder Baldwin was also my District Leader for the majority of my mission and when you consider our mission consisted of around 32 missionaries….well you can just imagine how close we all got! It had also been over 8 years since we last saw each other and boy oh boy was it fun to reminisce and remember so many wonderful memories from our mission. I found myself laughing all night. It was also really awesome to be able to get to know Shanda better and meet Elder Baldwin’s two darling kids Sophie and Tanner. So cute! We hope to get together with these guys much more often now that they are living back in Utah! Yay for good friends! đ
