Payson Canyon and “Rye-burts”

Since we went out of town last weekend we decided to keep close to home this weekend and have had fun doing all sorts of outdoorsy things. Friday night we took the kids up Payson canyon for a little Smores making party. We wanted to keep it pretty low key so we just took up our little coleman stove and camping chairs and set up camp in the first little picnic park we found. Adam made us some marshmallow roasters by shaving off the ends of some twigs (since we couldn’t find our real roasters) and then we took turns roasting our marshmallows over our little stove. The kids got all sorts of sticky from the gooey goodness and so we also took a little trip down to the nearby stream to wash up and throw rocks before heading home for part two of our fun night which consisted of going to Payson High for the Onion Days fireworks.

The fireworks were actually across the street at Payson Junior High, but to beat off the crowds and try to keep the noise levels down (Harrison and Dawson sometimes freak out due to loud noises) we took our party to the High School which ended up being perfect. We easily found a parking spot and there were only 3 other people out on a huge football field with us. We kicked around a soccer ball until the fireworks started and then laid out our blankets and pillows to give us a great overhead view. When the first fireworks went off, Harrison was SO EXCITED! And kept saying “Rainbow Rainbow!” (We have little rainbows on our ceiling each morning when the sun reflects on our mirror table so we think he confused the fireworks with those) It was so cute. We explained to him that they were actually fireworks, so the rest of the night every time a firework lit up the sky he would scream “Rye-burts, Rye-burts!” (Fireworks, Fireworks) We were laughing so hard over it, it was just so darn skinkin adorable! Here are some pics from the night.

I sure love these boys!

Such a cute little fella!

On the way home we had to snap this picture of the moon.

It looked so cool behind the clouds just behind the mountains.

What a fun night spent together as a family!
