Pioneer Names Arch & Trail (St. George)

The next stop on our agenda for the day was to go to a place where the early Pioneers had written their names in axle grease.  The hike wasn’t very long (half a mile) but it has some really cool features.  Like a big Arch that the boys had fun climbing, some rock climbing routes (shoot should have brought our gear!) and of course the names of the pioneers.  It also had some spectacular views of the canyon once you got up to where the names were written.  It was a really cool hike that we all thoroughly enjoyed. 🙂
I’m kind of in love with these mountains! Love the formations and pillar look.

The Hidden Arch

A better look up inside the arch.  It was THICK!

Adam was able to figure out a way to go up and over the arch, but we didn’t dare let the boys. What goes up – must also come down and it was STEEP!

Hard to see – but Adam is at the top.  He kind of blends into the white of the sky (the sun was behind him) so he’s hard to see.  Look at the ridge line where the mountain meets the sky and you may find him sort of middle left of the picture.

Here’s a better shot of him over the arch! Way to go darlin!

Love those calf muscles! Whoo whoo!

Peek-a-boo Adam!
I thought this tree growing in the rock was pretty awesome.  Its amazing what nature can do.

The Pioneer Names!  We found them!  The earliest ate was 1881 that we could tell.  Pretty cool.

Branson hiking up to see the names.  He was the only one that actually made it to the top, but he struggled coming down and needed help.  It was super steep.  I even chickened out and didn’t dare go up any higher.  Our fear of heights all kicked in.

This was about the point Branson needed help coming down.  I was able to go up and get him, but he’d been up as far as the writing.  I’m just glad I didn’t have to go and get him clear up there!

This was about how far I dared go.  It doesn’t look like it, but it was super steep.

The views from the top were Amazing!
