Playing The Field

This last week Branson started Soccer for the first time. We were a little worried about enrolling Branson at such a young age (he just barely turned 4) since we’ve heard a lot of stories where parents have signed their kids up just to have their kid sit on the sidelines because they are too shy to join in the fun, but Adam has been practicing with Branson in the evenings and Brans really seemed to like playing. So we signed him up and held our breath at what his reaction would be to playing with other kids.

He did so well though. At first he just stood right on the line and wouldn’t actually go out on the field, but our nice neighbors son Tanner came over, took Brans by the hand and showed him what to do. And thats all it took. Brans ran with the rest of the kids around the ball trying to kick it and had the BIGGEST smile on his face. I could just tell he was in total heaven playing with the other kids. We had to laugh at the uniforms though, because the shorts are all WAY too big for the kids and look more like dresses on them. We also get a kick out of all the kids SURROUNDING the ball at all times to try to kick it in. Or when one of the kids just sits down on the field and decides he/she is done playing. You gotta love it!

The look of sheer joy

Later when I asked Branson what his favorite part of playing Soccer was he responded with “The Capri Suns!” 🙂

Brans also helped Harrison out on the field

Afterwords we took the Harry and Brans out to get a Snow Cone to celebrate and then headed home for bed. Two days later Branson and his team the “Boxers” had another game. (This time they were Blue) and this time Branson wasn’t quite as excited. Within minutes of running around in the game he came back to where we were all sitting and said, “Ok, I’m done now, I don’t want to play anymore.” Adam coaxed him into going back in, but he still just didn’t seem to be that into it this time. He did stick out the rest of the game though, but this time didn’t seem as interested in kicking the ball and would just kind of hang back and let the other kids play.

Sure is fun watching out little guy play though, and we love getting to know the couples in our Payson ward better (There are a bunch of kids from our ward on Branson’s team)
