Random Happenings and a Weekend at the Logan Cabin

The rest of June and early July are kind of a blur. We had most of the “big things” over with but had lots of little things going on as well. We were able to go to a spontaneous BBQ at the Jurgens one night when our Jurashic Eggs event got canceled, Branson and I were able attend the baptisms of two of my kids in Primary (Brady Cox and Blake Weekley), we were able to go and see our newest member of Jurashic Eggs get blessed one Sunday (JJ Ashby), we had Mum and Smurf over for a 4th of July BBQ, and then we all had dentists appointments the next week. I unfortunately didn’t get pictures of any of these events – but wanted to write about them anyway so that I could at least remember them in years to come.

This last weekend we also decided to take a somewhat spontaneous trip down to our Logan Cabin. Adam really debated going as he had a ward Basketball BBQ he was invited to and the Scottish Festival was going on – but in the end the faces of his three sweet little boys begging to go to the cabin changed his mind. So on Friday we packed up our bags and headed up to Logan.

As tradition has it we first stopped at Adam’s favorite Mexican restaurant “El Sol” in Logan where we got a big nachos platter and lunch special to share and then after pulling over to send out a few quick emails and make a few calls we headed up the canyon. A storm rolled in just as we arrived at the cabin gates though and hit with a vengeance!! It ended up raining so bad that we ended up NOT going to the cabin and driving to higher ground because I was worried about a flash flood.

We ended up waiting the storm out for about 35 minutes on a hill just up the road from our cabin. When the rain finally died down a little we headed back and almost the entire drive to the cabin we saw sand bags lining the road. In some places the river was right up to the sand bags, and in others (like in our own cabin yard) little ponds had formed from all the water. It was definitely the highest we’ve ever seen the river water. Later we came to find out that 2 weeks before – the river had actually been flowing THROUGH the cabin yard. Aka. Why all the sandbags. It was pretty crazy.

Because the water was so high – all the grass around the cabin was completely SOAKED and we ended getting SUPER STUCK just trying to park our car. We tried backing up our car to the cabin door and ended up in about a foot of mud. Luckily Adam’s brother Cam and his best friend Jake Penrose were coming up that evening to visit us and they were able to help Adam get the car unstuck.

That evening we ended up just playing games with the kids and watching movies since it was too wet to go outside to play and put up the tree swing.

It was sure a fun and eventful first night at the cabin!
