Roataan Honduras

Before going on our Princess cruise I had looked online to find out what excursions people recommended and ended up finding that zip-lining, Roataans monkey farm, and snorkeling were some of the top rated attractions. So when I found a tour company in Roataan with 495 Five Star ratings that did all three excursions together for super cheap – I was all over it! ($65 for Adam, $25 for me).

We left the ship that morning around 10:00 and were greeted by our tour company just outside of the main strip. They took us in an air conditioned van through the jungle about 20-30 minutes all the while telling us about the history of Roataan and different landmarks as we went along and then we ended our tour at a beautiful plantation like home where our zip-lining adventure was to begin. It was actually the home of the owner of the company I had booked through (Victor Bodden).

Adam got all suited up in his harness and hard hat while I made sure my camera was ready and then headed out with his guide to run TWELVE different zip-lines! TWELVE. We were both super impressed and I could tell Adam was having the time of his life as he struck different poses on each line. Sometimes laying back like he was asleep, other times doing the superman pose, and at the end going upside down and twirling in circles. His guide was awesome to show him how to do everything. He was in HEAVEN.

All suited up and ready to go!

At one point – Adam lost momentum and his guide had to come out and get him. Even that was fun to watch!

Here Adam is exhausted after all his runs!

Next on our tour was to visit the monkey farm (which was what I really wanted to do). Monkeys have always been my favorite animal and this was my first REAL experience with them. It was such an amazing experience being able to hold them, pet them, feed them, and love on them. They are such soft gentle animals and I was just in love with them from first site!

If you look closely between the above picture and the one below you’ll see that in the top I’m holding adult sized monkeys and in the bottom I’ve got the babies. Dang they were cute!

They also had some other wild life at the monkey farm like Tucan’s, Lemur’s, squirrels, deer, and different parrots. I loved all their bright colors!

After the farm we headed over to the west end beach where Adam and I were able to snorkel for about an hour. The reef we were snorkeling was absolutely beautiful and so colorful – but the fish were few in number. However, about half way through our snorkeling adventure I kept getting sharp stabbing pin-like firey pains in different places all over my body. It took us a few minutes but we finally figured out that I was being stung repeatedly by jelly fish! We were quick to swim back to safer waters after that! Man did it hurt!

When we got back to shore I was able to and get a short little 15 minute massage from a Honduras woman who put some special ointment on all my stings to help eleviate the pain. It did seem to help and was nice to relax in a chair while she worked out some of my aches and pains too.

When we were done snorkeling our tour guide took us on a tour of the main street in Roataan where all the Honduran’s live and work. It was sad to see so much poverty. Then he took us back to our port where we did a little browsing in some stores and looked at some of the beautiful wood work the people there do.

They had some fun props to take pictures with in the port! LOVE this one!

And a view of our Princess cruise ship!

This was an old ship that didn’t quite survive one of Roataan’s hurricanes.

That night we did the anytime dining again where we were on a table with some VERY wealthy people. One of the couples had been on over 40 cruises, and lived in an old golf lodge that he converted to a house. Another couple had their own private airplane and he was a pilot for fun. The last couple was a sweet couple where the wife was from Italy. It was fun to get to know such a variety of people. Afterwards we went and saw a hypnotist show, and then headed to our stateroom to go to bed early. It was another very lovely day!
