Another day during our trip to Washington we went up Snoqualmie canyon to do some rock climbing. Rock climbing is something both Adam and I really enjoy as well as Cam and Erin so we knew it was bound to be a fun day. The hike up to the rock face was absolutely breathtaking with everything being so lush and green. We were in Snoqualmie heaven.
We loved this big moss covered boulder with trees growing on top of it. It made all of us think of a hobbits house. It was so fun. The kids loved climbing on it and making little hide outs.
Cousin Love.
This was our view once we arrived at the rock face we planned to climb. So pretty!
Our Beautiful Birthday Girl!
While each of our kids took turns climbing with Cam and Adam’s help the rest of us bouldered, played with sticks, eat snacks, or hung out talking. I snapped some pics of the kids while they waited (or at least those that would let me).
Harry was the first to climb. He made it to the top in no time at all.
Coming down was a bit more challenging though and all the kids with the exception of Mal needed Adam’s help. Even after teaching the kids how to lean back and plant their feet beforehand and repel ALL the kids ended up too terrified to do it once they were actually at the top of the face. It was just too scary. So Adam had to either plant each childs foot into the rock each step down or physically carry them down. It was a lot of hard work. and there were even some tears, but everyone made it down safely.
Teaching Harry how to repel and come down the face.
And just so you don’t think this was some easy climb – here is the view from the bottom. The kids did awesome!
Cute couple shot with a cranky baby photo bomb. 🙂
Luckily she snaps out of bad moods pretty easily.
A favorite activity of the kids. Putting sticks in the ground and covering them up with rocks. Kept them entertained for an hour.
Bransons turn on the rock wall. He did awesome going up but was the most difficult child for Adam to get down because he was terrified of how high up he was. He told me afterwards that he wasn’t afraid of heights but was afraid he was going to die up on the face. Poor guy.
Dawson also did an amazing job going up but was scared coming down but he was more willing to listen to Adam’s direction so he came down fairly easily. You can tell on his face in his picture though that he’s a little freaked out by how high he is.
Cole and Mal did an incredible job as well. Check out Cole almost to the top! Atta boy!
I even took a turn on the mountain as well. Cam moved the rope to a more difficult climb after the kids were done but it was still fairly easy and only took a few minutes to climb. I loved every minute.
By that point though the kids were pretty DONE with waiting around any longer and so Adam and I took them down to the river while Cam and Erin went up.
I made the kids take a few quick pictures before going off to play in the river.
The babies loved throwing rocks in the water.
We ended the night by getting some Korean take out and eating some cookie pie for Erins birthday. Then we introduced Cam and Erin to Duck Dynasty (which they liked). Sure was a wonderful day spent with family!
