Thanksgiving in Alpine

Thanksgiving this year was hosted by my wonderful parents up in Alpine Utah.  We always love getting together with either side of our families and spending time with those we love.  Papa was able to join us this year too which made Thanksgiving extra special.  We sure do love having him in Utah with us.  All of the Harrison clan was able to come (meaning all my siblings and nieces and nephews) so that was awesome too.

We had dinner in the basement of my parents house on their big ping pong table and a few card tables and had fun eating Turkey, mashed potatoes, cheesy potatoes, yams, sweet cauliflower, peas, olives, veggie tray items, rolls, and jello.  Yum!  For dessert we had pumpkin and apple pie, and then three cream pies I made (chocolate, banana, and butterfinger).

After dinner we went upstairs and were able to do “Nana’s Workshop” where we put together over 100 snack bags for children at the food bank.  These bags were each filled with a drink, rice crispy treat, package of crackers, fruit snack, granola bar, candy, and then a little toy or pez candy dispenser.

My family has been doing these snack bags for years and each couple usually is in charge of bringing 2 items to put in the bags for 100 kids.  For instance this year Adam and I were in charge of bringing 100 packages of crackers and then 100 little toys to put in the bags.  It really is a lot of fun and we so love being able to feel the spirit of service during the holidays.

Below are some pics of everyone in the family putting the snack bags together.

We ended the night by watching a whole bunch of old family movies my Dad has recently had converted from 8 mm film to DVD.   I commented to Adam how surreal it was to watch movies of when I was the age that my kids are right now.  It just seemed like a whole other world.  Crazy how fast time goes.

We also played a few rounds of King Elephant and In the Manner of the Adverb and then of course had fun teasing and making fun of each other all night.  Our favorite was teasing Luke about how often he showed up in family movies in “pink” pajamas.  🙂

It was sure a wonderful holiday spent with with family we love.  We so love this special time of year!
