The “Incredible” Harrison Family Reunion

This last weekend we were able to attend the Harrison side of the families reunion.  Adam and I were technically in charge of it this year, but it is also my Mom and Dad’s 40th anniversary and so we kind of combined efforts to plan the big event.  It ended up being so fun!
My sister Jess has been in and out of the hospital for quite some time now and so in order for her family to be able to make the reunion we decided to have it in my parents back yard.  We all brought our trailers or tents and were able to camp out for two nights which was so fun.  Months before the reunion I found a great deal on a bounce house and so we decided to reserve that, and then last minute Mom also talked herself into getting a big water slide as well!  That was a hit!  The adults and kids all loved it and spent most of the reunion having a ball out in the sun!

A last minute splurge by my Mom – a Giant Water Slide!

The first night of the reunion we mostly spent having fun on the slides, and then later on we ordered pizza and settled in to watch “The Incredibles” movie outside on the projector.  Adam set it all up and the kids loved snuggling up in big blankets and pillows with all their cousins.  Unfortunately we had a few technical difficulties which caused several long interruptions during the movie and which also meant we had to turn the movie off a little early because it was getting so late (midnight).  But it sure was a fun activity!

The next day Jake and Stacey made us a scrumptious Belgium waffles and fruit breakfast and then everyone changed into their swimsuits for a day on the slide!  This was a huge hit for everyone and many a tricks were discovered (twirling in circles, spins, backwards, summer saults, you name it).  We also unfortunately had a few run ins as well causing a few bumps and bruises.  Mom got a blister on her foot, Stacey got cut up on her elbow, and then Jasmine got a black eye when she and Branson collided heads at one point.  Everyone had a blast though even with all the run ins and bonks to the head (almost every child at some point ended up crying).

Jess watched from the porch in the backyard and loved playing with the babies!

Later Mom and I went and picked my Papa up at his rest home in Provo so he could come up and enjoy the fun too.  He always seems to be in much higher spirits when he is able to come and be with family.  We sure do love him!

These two cuties ended up totally bonding this trip and had a blast together!

Another fun activity my Mom had was this great big Red ball filled with air.  The kids could get inside and then someone would roll them around all over the yard in it.  Or they would have “secret meetings” inside it and use it as a fort of sorts.  Needless to say it was a hit!

Mom also got these cute little Tee-pee’s from a neighbor which the kids loved.  At one point the littler kids moved them to the middle of the yard and then created a little camping spot with them complete with camping chairs and a pretend fire (made from Mom’s mini tramp and a box or something with a red towel on it for the fire).  It was really quite cute.

For lunch we had homemade Quiznos Subs, chips, fruit, and cookies made by Adam and I and then we mostly just spent the afternoon lounging around, watching movies (Hunger games), taking naps, talking, or sun bathing.  Then Saturday evening my Dad made up some of his famous ribs and we all brought a salad to share.  Mom made her potato salad, Jess brought her yummy pasta salad, Stacey brought a yummy grape and granola salad, and we contributed a strawberry/blueberry spinach salad.  It was YUMMY!  We also had Dad’s homemade guacamole and chips too.  No one went hungry.

In the evening after dinner we had a fun game of soccer using a big bouncy ball and we played adults verses kids where you had to try to keep the ball away from the other team.  I wish I’d gotten pictures of the game because it was so fun to see all the little kids running after the adults to try to get the ball.

We also did family photos in our “Incredibles” T-shirts.

Later that night we all gathered in a circle where Mom and Dad gave a touching tribute to our “incredible” family and talked about how this reunion was a fulfillment of their dreams.  Then we sang a few fun songs and then Mom had a drawing for lots of fun prizes (including the big red ball, puzzle ball, Incredibles T-shirts, Incredibles books, spot it games, zu zu pets, and licorice).  Then Mom also gave all the kids “Incredibles masks.”  They all looked so cute – we just had to snap a picture.

That night the kids were all exhausted from staying up so late the night before so most everyone was down to sleep by 10 leaving the adults time to talk, play games (zombies for the boys), and make fun of Luke for his “racing snake” and “slow moves.”  Quinton Ferguson (a long time family friend) stopped by as well and we loved catching up with him.

The next morning Luke and Liesa made some yummy breakfast burritos for us all, and then we all packed up and headed home.  We all seriously had a wonderful time though and enjoyed so much just being together.  Thank you so much Mom and Dad for all your efforts and for planning such a wonderful reunion filled with precious memories!  We sure love you and are so grateful to belong to such an “Incredible” family. 🙂
