Updated Chairs!

While Adam was in India for some reason I turned into Miss Project woman and had the strongest desire to get a whole bunch of things done I’d been wanting to do.  I cleaned out the kids clothes putting away their winter outfits and getting out their summer ones.  I organized Adalynns closet, bought a whole bunch of clothes from my friend (thanks again Erica!).  I put in 2 strawberry beds, moved my blackberry bushes, and planted a whole slew of other flowers and plants.  I also weeded the entire yard, and even pick axed our entire garden by hand (we don’t have a tiller) and then planted our peas, beans, squashes, and potatoes.  Everyday I managed to fill my time to the MAX and then every night we had some big activity going on.  It was BUSY!  But it helped pass the time quickly and before we knew it our Daddy was HOME!!!!

One of my favorite projects while Adam was gone though was re-doing all my kitchen chairs.  Before we moved to Payson we bought our mirror dining room set (which we love) but the chairs have always looked pretty dirty and because they are white they’ve just gotten dirtier looking as the years have gone by and they’ve been driving me crazy!  Then in December we bought new matching bar stools but I HATED them because you had to wash them every single day or they just looked GROSS.  The material showed everything and although you could clean them up to look nice again…it took some serious elbow grease and the chairs were a thorn in my side because of that.  Whoever thought to make kitchen bar stools not in leather or vinyl were crazy!  Lesson learned!

So one night I took my Mother in law Musie out for a Mothers Day dinner at Costa Vida and then afterwards she was kind enough to help me pick out some material at JoAnns AND use her 50% off coupon to buy it.  Saweet.  I so love her!   I was able to re-upholster my dining room chairs for a little over $2 per chair ($15 total) and then I also did my kitchen bar stools as well for $10 for all 6 chairs!  Can’t beat that!  Best $25 I’ve ever spent.

When I got home that evening I set right to work on the dining room chairs, and then I cleaned the bar stools TWICE to make sure I got them as clean as could be so I could cover them the next day.  I’d decided to go with some really heavy plastic vinyl for the bar stools since all the colored vinyl was so expensive ($21 a YARD! Yikes).  I really like the way they turned out though so it was a good decision in the end.  Below are some pictures of the process and finished product! 🙂

Cutting out the fabric and getting ready to staple it onto the back.

My assembly line for putting the chairs back on.  I’d set them like this, put the cushion in place, and then screw the screws into the bottom.  Worked like a charm. 🙂

The before and after of the chairs.  We went from dirty white to fun and trendy polka-dot!

Finished chairs!

The kitchen bar stool cushions all laid out to dry after being cleaned twice.

Taking the chairs apart.

The finished product!  6 New looking bar stools that are now super easy to CLEAN! No more stains! Yay!

That weekend I was also able to have my awesome brother in law Nick come over and Adam and I paid him to WELD our bar stools together.  The backs of them kept coming off and were driving me crazy so we got that little pet peeve of mine all fixed up too.  Sure is nice to have all my updated chairs!  They make me happy!  And you can’t beat the cleanup! 🙂
