Wolf Creek Ski Weekend

In early January around the time we were celebrating Adam’s birthday I was trying to fish around for something fun he would like to do.  After much poking and prodding I was finally able to find out that Adam would really like to go skiing.  So I immediately got online, figured out a time we could all slip away, and booked our condo.  Unfortunately though the Friday before that glorious trip happened Branson ended up getting the 24 hour flu and I was just certain someone else was going to get it too – so we decided we’d better cancel our trip. 🙁  Little did I know that it would take another WEEK before any of us got it – but that it would still make its course through most of our family.
Finally though in mid March we were all able to get over our sicknesses and find a time when we could head up to Wolf Creek for our little get-away.  We invited my wonderful in-laws Mum and Smurf (who we just adore) and on a Sunday afternoon following our Sunday block we headed up.  I had made some crock pot roast beast with taters and carrots for dinner and we were able to bribe our niece Lisel to come up and join us from Odgen that night for dinner.  Lucky us!  We had a great time hearing about her adventures on ski patrol and about her new boyfriend.  Sure do love that girl.

That night we mostly just talked and played some games and were able to hear some really special and sacred experiences that Mum and Smurf shared with us about how they came to live in Smithfield after grad school as well as some of their advice on raising great kids.  They sure are great examples to Adam and I and I’m so grateful to be married into such a great family!

On Monday morning we had some yummy waffles, sausage, and juice for breakfast and then Adam and I were able to take off for a day on the slopes just the two of us – while Mum and Smurf played with the kids.  It was SOOOO nice to be up in the mountains again on the slopes after an 8-10 year break.  Man did I miss it.  But boy was it exhausting!

When we first arrived in the parking lot – funny enough too – we ran into my very best friend in High School Tyrone Frazier who lived across the street from me in Alpine.  We’ve managed to remain good friends over the years and Adam just adores Tyrone and his wife Emily just as much as I do.  Tyrone was up with his cousin Joe and all their kids for one of their last ski trips that season.  We loved seeing how even their little little kids could ski – and it got us excited to bring our kids the next day.

Half way through the day too, at around lunch time, I broke off from Adam to get a bite to eat (Ad wanted to continue skiing) and once again ran into Tyrone and Joe and the kids in the Lodge where they too were eating lunch.  It was fun to be able to catch up with them and their families.  Then Ad and I were off to hit a few more runs together before heading back.

Adam took his short ski’s which were a BLAST to ski on.  He was doing 360’s and jumps like crazy on them.  It looked so fun that I also tried them out and although I biffed when trying to turn in circles, I TOTALLY loved how easy they were to turn in and how fun they made skiing!  Such a riot!

When we returned from skiing I had promised the boys I’d take them hot tubing so down to the hot tub we went.  I love this picture of all of them snuggled up in their towels.  It may look like a nice day but it was still COLD!!!

I am totally loving Adam’s “ski hair.”  It rocks!

That evening we had Musaman Curry over rice for dinner with steamed veggies and salad and then settled in for a movie night.  On Tuesday Mum and Smurf made us a yummy breakfast of bacon, eggs, and hash browns and then we headed out for another afternoon of skiing.  This time with the kids.  We unfortunately weren’t able to find enough “little kid” ski’s for all three boys but we did find one pair so we just had the boys take turns skiing down the hill with Daddy.  It worked out best that way anyway because only one of us could be out there at a time since we still had Sissy and Dawson to watch.  Branson and Harry absolutely LOVED it though and couldn’t stop talking about how fun it was.  We will definitely have to make this a tradition each year.

Off for their first run!
Then this little one and Dawson and I hung out in the Lodge watching Phineas and Ferb and taking pictures.

To end our little get-away we finished off the day by eating at our favorite restaurant Texas Roadhouse where we celebrated a new promotion Adam just got at work.
Sure was a wonderful week spent with precious people in our lives.  Thank you Mum and Smurf for coming with us and for all your help with meals and the kids!  We sure do love you!
