Sand Harbor Lake Tahoe

After 3 glorious days in Mariposa where we were able to go and see Yosemite, it was time to head out for the next leg of our trip. That of going up to Lake Tahoe. I had originally hoped to spend 3 nights at Tahoe, but when the condo I had rented fell through and my favorite mission companion Shantel (who lives nearby) already was booked with family visiting from out of town that weekend, we ended up deciding to change our plans. Instead of going to Lake Tahoe at the beginning of our trip, we decided to try to hit it at the end! This unfortunately meant we wouldn’t get as many days on the lake, but it did mean we got to see Shantel and THAT was what I was most excited about. So it worked out well.
We ended up packing up and leaving the ranch house in Mariposa Saturday morning August 6th and then drove the 4+ hours to Tahoe that afternoon only stopping for gas and lunch. We ended up letting Harry choose where we had lunch that day, and not surprising he picked Indian food which we found along the way! Then we drove the rest of the way to Lake Tahoe’s beautiful Sand Harbor State Park!
To say this place was beautiful was an understatement! I instantly fell in love with the beauty of Lake Tahoe’s water and landscape and wished we could extend our trip by a few more days! I did NOT want to leave! It was a great place for kids too because the water was super shallow so the kids could go out for a long time in the water without it getting deep! They had a ball swimming, building sand castles, and climbing all over the rocks.

This was our view to the East.

And this was our view of the West.

Adam ended up going for a swim with the boys clear out at the end of the rocks while I watched Jamis and Ady and when he got back he suggested I go and have some fun as well. So I took Ady and we went for a walk around the bend to explore the other side of the beach. This was the view from the top of the bend.

We were amazed when we came around the bend to find that there were layers and layers of HUGE boulders everywhere! Seriously can this place get any cooler?

We loved the beautiful rocky terrain!

We ended up walking all the way over to the other side of the beach where we discovered that the North side was even more beautiful than the South side (where we were!) It seriously was just gorgeous!

I loved the mixture of sand and rocks with the crystal clear turquoise waters!

Then it was time to head back to our side of the beach where I hoped to convince them to move to the other side, but alas, we already had everything set up, so everyone voted just to stay put. Next time though. Next time!

When I returned I found Adam building sand castles with the kids, but Jamis was no where to be found! I had a freak out moment wondering if he had drown or been abducted and instantly set Adam and the kids out looking for him, but luckily he was found quickly. The little stinker had wandered over to where a group was playing sand volleyball to watch the game! But boy was I scared for a minute!

Next up…Shantel joins us at the Lake!
