After our fun hike up to the light house and time down on the beach we jumped back in our car to continue our drive up to Newport. We ended up getting stuck in some traffic just as we took off though which stopped us for probably a good half an hour.
We saw lots of beautiful scenery as we traveled.
We also made a few stops to see Thors Hammer and Devils Churn, but because it was low tide, we didn’t feel like we got a true feel for how awesome these places are. Normally the water goes right up this “shute” of sorts and makes a big splash at the end.
These next photos are of Devils churn.
Once again it is a place where during high tide the water comes in and rushes up between these cliffs spraying out tons of water. I just so happened to catch Adam pointing it out to me when I took the picture! 🙂
We got to go over several pretty bridges like this one while we traveled.
And finally around 6pm we made it to Newport! We loved stopping by the beach before going out to dinner.
For dinner we went to an Irish Pub called “Nana’s that I had found on tripadvisor that was highly rated and we got 4 different plates of Irish food to share, and then took our food to a park to eat. We had a Reuben sandwich, Meatloaf over potatoes, Shepherds pie, and a spicy sausage thing over mashed potatoes. They were all super yummy and even the kids commented on how delicious everything was! We licked all our plates clean! After dinner the kids had fun playing on the playground and especially loved this super long slide!
I have to say too that the play ground equipment in Oregon is SO much nicer than what we have in Utah. They had some seriously fun things for kids and didn’t seem to worry as much about kids getting hurt while playing. I loved all the creative and unique things for the kids to do.
We ended our evening by checking into our Money Saver hotel where we got two rooms with 2 queen sized beds in each, and then had fun vegging and watching TV all night. The older kids watched cartoons in one room, while the little kids and Adam and I watched America’s got Talent in the other room. It was a great day spent exploring Oregon!
