Day 17 in Peru took us to Rainbow Mountain, which was more impressive than I thought it would be, but also a lot more difficult than we thought due to the 17k altitude even though most of the trail was flat.
Poor Adam ended up with a severe migraine (and he rarely even gets headaches) as well as some nausea which didn’t make for a great trip for him. He had a hard time breathing too, which didn’t help. Bottom line – He had altitude sickness. 😢
The littler kids too were struggling and complaining having done a big hike the day before so we ended up renting a horse and guide for them halfway through our hike which they could both sit on! Best $5 ever! 😂
Harry and Dawson and our guide Adner were super speedy so they went ahead with the horse and packs, but then Harry was awesome and came back to help and literally pulled me and Adam up some of the steep parts of the mountain! So grateful for our thoughtful kids! ❤️
As we walked we had beautiful glacier mountains to the south of us, and red colorful mountains to the north of us. The closer we got to rainbow mountain the more vibrant the colors became. I was really enjoying the scenery.
However by the time we reached the main picture area, the kids and Adam were all ready to head back (it was SUPER cold and windy) so Adner and I were the only ones who summated. But such an amazing day on rainbow mountain. Such a beautiful place! ❤️
