Mysore Botanical Gardens and Water Fountain Show

After spending the day at the palace and getting some lunch – Adam and I decided to do something we had yet to do our whole trip – take a nap together!  So we requested that Naveen take us back to our hotel for some R&R.  I ended up completely crashing, but poor Adam had some work he had to do and never did get his nap in.  He did, however, watch some TV while I was drifting off to sleep about planes crashing – which I SO didn’t appreciate seeing as I was REALLY missing my kids and we were flying out the next day for Paris! Ha!  Bless his heart.

After some delightful rest though we decided to head back out for a night on the town and opted to go to some botanical gardens just outside of Mysore.  Our driver Naveen highly recommended them, and especially thought we’d enjoy the evening water fountain light show.  Unfortunately JUST as we arrived a huge storm rolled in and it started getting dark fast, so we really didn’t get to see much of the gardens.  We still had a great time though looking around and then later running for cover when the rain came pouring down!  It was actually quite fun and quite the adventure!  We found shelter under a stone patio of sorts – but it literally was the ONLY thing for people to take shelter under so we were packed like sardines!  We made friends with some of our fellow sardines though and ended up laughing and having fun despite the rain.  We also invested in an umbrella (for 300 rupies or $1.50) and later just took shelter under that so we could see the water fountain light show better.  Sure was a fun evening though!  Below are a FEW pictures that didn’t turn out super blurry that we took before it got too dark.

These rice fields weren’t actually apart of the gardens, but they were right next door and oh so beautiful so I had Naveen pull over for a few quick pictures!  So pretty and green! A stark difference to our cold snowy weather in Utah. 🙂
You can’t tell from this picture (my camera didn’t do it justice) but the sun was literally blood red.  It was probably one of the most amazing sunsets I’d ever seen because of the color of the sun.  Just so different than what a setting sun in Utah looks like.

Adam and I literally RAN through the gardens as fast as we could and still only saw a smidget of what the place had to offer.  We tried to take as many pictures as we could as fast as we could so many turned out super blurry.  It also didn’t help that it was getting DARK fast.  But hopefully even with the blurry pictures you can get a small taste of how beautiful the gardens were.  đŸ™‚

Here we are under our stone “shelter” we found just as the storm hit.  Our new friends are the guys standing to the right of Adam.  They were on a guys get-away for the week.

We were worried they would cancel the water fountain light show due to the rain since everyone left their seats and scattered for shelter, but after the sun went down the music started playing and the light show began!  The fountains would dance with the music and create fun patterns (similar to the fountains in Vegas) turning colors as it did so.  Adam and I stood off to the side and loved swaying to the music under our handy umbrella.

For dinner we just decided to eat a variety of things in the park and ended up getting a cup of hot corn, some spicy noodles, popcorn, some deep fried potatoes, cut up fruit, and then some ice cream bars.  It was fun to try so many different snacks, but most of them were just so so for us.  Nothing special.  They filled our tummies though and anytime you end a night with ice cream its a good night for me!  On the way home, both Adam and I were wiped out though and spent almost the entire hour long drive home napping in the car!  It was a great day sight seeing!
